"Juliana didn't just chase stories”
She built a home where unheard voices could finally speak up.
Juliana da Penha is a Brazilian journalist and editor based in Scotland, with a journey that spans Brazil, Portugal, Cape Verde, and Italy. But no matter where she goes, one thing remains the same, which is her deep commitment to telling stories that matter.
She is the Founding Editor and Director of Migrant Women Press, an independent media platform led by migrant women, for migrant women. It's more than a publication. It's a powerful response to the silence, the stereotypes, and the missing voices in mainstream media.
Juliana started as a reporter covering hip-hop culture and social movements in Brazil. From those early days, she understood that journalism was never just about headlines alone. It was about truth, fair representation, and the right to be seen and heard. As she moved through different countries and communities, she carried that same fire, working with migrant and racialised communities to amplify voices often left out of the conversation.
With an academic background in cultural studies, human rights, journalism innovation and leadership, Juliana has built both the skills and the platform to drive real change. Her work focuses on the intersections of gender, race, and migration, and reshaping the media space to better reflect the world we live in —a diverse, complex, and beautifully human world.
Juliana isn't just reporting the story. She's rewriting who gets to tell it.
